Title: Smart Hybrid IoT-Enabled Microgrid With Net-Zero Energy Vision: A Case Study

Abstract: Reliable and sustainable electricity access remains a major challenge in rural, remote, and underserved regions. This work presents SHINE (Smart Hybrid IoT-Enabled Microgrid with Net-Zero Energy Vision), an intelligent solar microgrid integrating renewable energy generation, battery energy storage, IoT-enabled monitoring, and demand-side management. The proposed system enables real-time energy management by coordinating energy generation, storage, and loads based on energy availability. Digital twin technology is further integrated for synchronized monitoring and improved system operation. The developed TRL-6 technology has been demonstrated at campus scale and incorporates EV charging and controllable loads. The SHINE framework provides a scalable approach for delivering reliable, affordable, and low-emission energy to rural communities, institutions, industries, and other remote applications.
