The Laboratory of Signals and Systems (L2S, UMR 8506), founded in 1974, is a joint research unit of CNRS, CentraleSupélec, and Université Paris-Saclay. It is hosted by CentraleSupélec on the Paris-Saclay campus in Gif-sur-Yvette.
Its activities fall within the scope of CNRS Informatics. They include the modeling, estimation, and control of systems; signal and image processing; statistics and machine learning; and information theory, communications, and networks.
Modeling, identification, estimation, and control of dynamical systems: nonlinear or hybrid systems, infinite-dimensional systems, interconnected systems, robust or constrained control, and optimization.
Statistical signal and data processing, high-dimensional statistics and optimization, statistical learning, inverse problems and imaging, uncertainty quantification, and industrial system monitoring.
Information and communication theory, optimization and learning, networks and multimedia, communication systems, quantum communications, and digital infrastructure.
Collaborations between the three scientific divisions are organized around three interdisciplinary themes:
L2S contributes to research and education activities at CentraleSupélec and Université Paris-Saclay. Its members contribute in particular to the Engineering and Systems Sciences and Digital Sciences Graduate Schools, the DATAIA Institute, and several national thematic networks.
Research is conducted through academic projects and collaborations with institutional and industrial partners. The laboratory hosts doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting researchers representing around thirty different nationalities.
